D. Joint action by the United Nations and the Organization of African Unity

Forty representatives from Governments, national human rights institutions, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions, as well as representatives from the ECCAS secretariat, the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and the Department for Disarmament Affairs, attended the workshop.
وحضرها أربعون ممثلا عن الحكومات ومؤسسات حقوق الإنسان الوطنية والمنظمات غير الحكومية والمؤسسات الأكاديمية، فضلا عن ممثلين عن أمانة الجماعة الاقتصادية ومنظمة الوحدة الإفريقية وإدارة شؤون نزع السلاح.

Recalling the resolutions adopted by previous Islamic conferences and also the resolutions and final declarations adopted by the Council of the League of Arab States, the Organization of African Unity, and the Non-Aligned Movement;
وإذ يذكر بالقرارات الصادرة عن المؤتمرات الإسلامية السابقة، وكذلك القرارات والبيانات الختامية الصادرة عن مجلس الجامعة العربية ومنظمة الوحدة الإفريقية وحركة عدم الانحياز.

Also recalling the Algiers Declaration adopted by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of the African Unity at its Thirty-Fifth Ordinary Session held at Algiers from 12 to 14 July 1999;
وإذ يذكر أيضا بإعلان الجزائر الصادر عن مؤتمر رؤساء دول وحكومات منظمة الوحدة الإفريقية في دورته العادية الخامسة والثلاثين المنعقدة في الجزائر في الفترة من 12 إلى 14 يوليو 1999 ،

The release reaffirms Eritrea's commitment to the Framework Agreement of the Organization of African Unity and its readiness to implement it.
ويؤكد البيان الصحفي من جديد التزام إريتريا بالاتفاق اﻹطاري لمنظمة الوحدة اﻷفريقية واستعدادها لتنفيذه.

Bearing in mind also the decisions of the Organization of African Unity, the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries and the United Nations on this question;

144. An international meeting sponsored by the Organization of African Unity and the United Nations might help to bring about peace.
144- ومن شأن عقد اجتماع دولي يُنظّم تحت إشراف منظمة الوحدة الإفريقية ومنظمة الأمم المتحدة أن يساعد على التوصل إلى إقرار السلم.

8.2. Regional instruments 404. Article III of the Charter of the Organization of African Unity relating to the guiding principles, notably respect for the sovereign equality and territorial integrity of every State and its inalienable right to independent existence.
404- وتتصل المادة الثالثة من ميثاق منظمة الوحدة الإفريقية التي تتعلق بمبادئ المنظمة، بصفة خاصة، على احترام سيادة كل دولة وسلامتها الإقليمية، وكذلك حقها غير القابل للتصرف في وجود مستقل.

The establishment of the Organization of African Unity/African Union (OAU/AU) mechanism for the prevention, management and settlement of conflicts as well as the mediation missions undertaken by African States in Africa were proof of their desire to promote peace throughout the continent.
وإن إنشاء آلية منظمة الوحدة الإفريقية/الاتحاد الأفريقي لمنع وإدارة وتسوية المنازعات وكذلك بعثات الوساطة التي اضطلعت بها الدول الأفريقية في أفريقيا هي دليل على رغبتها في نشر السلام في جميع أنحاء القارة.

In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council's prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended invitations under rule 39 of its provisional rules of procedure to Amara Essy, Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity/African Union, and Ivan Simonovic, President of the Economic and Social Council.
ووفقا للتفاهم الذي توصل إليه المجلس في مشاوراته السابقة، وبموافقته، وجه الرئيس الدعوة، بموجب المادة 39 من النظام الداخلي المؤقت، إلى كل من عمارة إيسي، الأمين العام لمنظمة الوحدة الإفريقية/الاتحاد الأفريقي، وإيفان سيمونوفيتش، رئيس المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي.

73. Since action at the world level should be supported by action at the regional level, the European Union welcomed the interest which the Organization of African Unity and the African countries had shown, as well as the increased attention given by OSCE to the rights of the child.
73 - وقالت إن العمل على الصعيد العالمي سوف يتضاعف بالقيام بعمل على الصعيد الإقليمي، وأن الاتحاد الأوروبي يعرب عن اغتباطه للاهتمام الذي أبدته منظمة الوحدة الإفريقية والبلدان الإفريقية وكذلك الاهتمام المتزايد من جانب منظمة الأمن والتعاون في أوروبا بشأن حقوق الطفل.

4. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) noted in 2013 that Senegal had ratified the 1969 Organization of African Unity (OAU) Convention Governing the Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa.
4- وذكّرت مفوضية الأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين في عام 2013 بأن السنغال صدقت على اتفاقية منظمة الوحدة الإفريقية لعام 1969 التي تحكم المظاهر الخاصة بمشكلات اللاجئين في أفريقيا(13).

Here the United Nations must play a leading role, in close cooperation with the Organization of African Unity and the subregional organizations.
وهنا يجب أن تضطلع اﻷمم المتحدة بدور قيادي، بالتعاون الوثيق مع منظمة الوحدة اﻷفريقية والمنظمات دون اﻹقليمية.
