In its response to the Secretary-General dated 3 July and 18 September 1996, Finland 23/ considered it important that the European Union Council regulations on the matter be reformed, given the fact that long drift-nets caught varying quantities of protected undersized species as by-catches, such as dolphins and other marine mammals and turtles.

23. In its reply to the Secretary-General dated 9 July 1997, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) submitted the following report:

In its response to the Secretary-General dated 15 August 1997, the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO) stated that it was not aware of any activities within the area of the Convention for the Conservation of Salmon in the North Atlantic Ocean which would be inconsistent with resolution 46/215.
٢٩ - وذكرت منظمة شمال اﻷطلسي للمحافظة على سمك السلمون، في ردها على اﻷمين العام بتاريخ ١٥ آب/أغسطس ١٩٩٧، أنها لا تعلم عن وجود أي أنشطة في المنطقة المشمولة باتفاقية المحافظة على سمك السلمون في شمال المحيط اﻷطلسي تتعارض مع القرار ٤٦/٢١٥.

35. In a communication to the Secretary-General dated 3 January 1997, Turkey stated that Turkish fishermen did not use drift-nets in international or territorial waters since drift-net fishing was prohibited by Turkish authorities.

25. In a note to the Secretary-General dated 20 June 1995, the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO) informed the Secretary-General that NASCO was not aware of any activities within the convention area which would be inconsistent with General Assembly resolution 49/116.
٥٢ - وفي مذكرة موجهة الى اﻷمين العام بتاريخ ٢٠ حزيران/يونيه ١٩٩٥، أحاطت منظمة شمال المحيط اﻷطلسي للمحافظة على سمك السلمون اﻷمين العام علما بأنه ليس لديها علم بأي أنشطة تجري داخل منطقة الاتفاقية تتعارض مع قرار الجمعية العامة ٤٩/١١٦.

32. In its response to the Secretary-General dated 23 June 1995, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) stated that it did not have any specific information to submit for the reporting period.
٢٣ - وفي ردها الموجه الى اﻷمين العام بتاريخ ٢٣ حزيران/يونيه ١٩٩٥، ذكرت لجنة اﻷمم المتحدة الاقتصادية ﻷمريكا اللاتينية ومنطقة البحر الكاريبي أنه ليس لديها أي معلومات محددة لتقديمها عن الفترة المشمولة بالتقرير.

37. In its submission to the Secretary-General dated 6 May 1998, the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) indicated that there had been no reports of large-scale pelagic drift-net fishing in the Commission area during the 1997/98 period.

9. In its report to the Secretary-General dated 14 June 1994, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) submitted the following information:

24. The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), in a communication addressed to the Secretary-General dated 29 June 1995, indicated that other than fully supporting the aims and principles of the resolution, it had no additional comments to make.

In its report to the Secretary-General dated 4 July 1995, the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) indicated that General Assembly resolution 49/116 was of less concern to NEAFC as a body, since its major focus appeared to be on the duties of flag States in respect of vessels fishing in zones under national jurisdiction of other States.

30. In its submission to the Secretary-General dated 31 May 1995, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) indicated that the subject of General Assembly resolution 49/116 was outside its mandate and did not therefore call for any comments.

8. In its reply to the Secretary-General dated 18 June 1996, Maldives 4/ stated that it was opposed to any form of large-scale pelagic drift-net fishing on the high seas. It further indicated that the use of such nets was prohibited in the waters under the national jurisdiction in the Maldives.

26. In its report to the Secretary-General dated 24 April 1996, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) 18/ provided the sections of the Proceedings of the Fourteenth Regular Meeting of ICCAT held in Madrid in November 1995 relevant to large-scale drift-net fishing and its effects on tuna stocks.

Lebanon considers the Shab'a farms as part of its territory, as indicated in the Memorandum of 12 May 2000 addressed to the Secretary-General on 12 May 2000.
