1. On 9 July 2004 the International Court of Justice held that the wall presently being built by Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), including in and around East Jerusalem, is contrary to international law.

7. In summarizing its finding that the wall violates international humanitarian law and international human rights law, the Court has the following to say:

81. The year 2014 marks the tenth anniversary of the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which determined that the wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory built by Israel, the occupying Power, is contrary to international law.

In previous reports the Special Rapporteur has expressed the view that the wall seems to have been built without regard to security considerations in many areas (for instance, in some areas the wall is built in the valley below Palestinian villages).
