Part III of Annex B of the Convention describes the goal of reducing and ultimately eliminating the production and use of the PFOS substances listed there.

2. As set out in paragraph 6 of part II of Annex B of the Convention, the Conference of the Parties is required to evaluate the continued need for disease vector control at its first meeting and at least every three year thereafter.
2 - وكما يرد في الفقرة 6 من الجزء الثاني من المرفق باء من الاتفاقية فإنه يُطلب إلى مؤتمر الأطراف تقييم استمرار الحاجة لأجل مكافحة حاملات الأمراض وذلك أثناء اجتماعه الأول، ثم بعد ذلك كل ثلاث سنوات على الأقل.

Listing of PFOS in Annex B of the Convention would prohibit the manufacture, use, import and export of PFOS except for specified acceptable purposes/specific exemptions such as those mentioned above for which at present no alternatives are available.

The Convention establishes a register of exemptions that lists those Parties that have registered for specific exemptions listed in Annexes A or B of the Convention.

Article 4 of the Stockholm Convention establishes a register for the purpose of identifying the Parties that have specific exemptions listed in Annex A or Annex B of the Convention.

With regard to the new chemicals listed to the Convention in Annexes A or B to the Convention in 2009, as at 20 November 2012, the Secretariat had received nine notifications of specific exemptions.

Production and use of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), its salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride (PFOSF) is restricted by the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, but some use and production are still allowed as provided in Annex B to the Convention.

Parties are requested to use this format to also provide the Secretariat with information on the production and use of PFOS, its salts and PFOSF, as specified in paragraph 5(b) of part III of Annex B to the Convention.
