11. Invites the Secretary-General to organize, within existing resources, a special activity to launch the celebration of the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, which could include the ringing of the peace bell;

The Ministers welcomed the contributions of Member States towards the celebration in 2010 of the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), through different activities and initiatives at the national, regional and international levels, in coordination with UNESCO.

First, let me recall that, in resolution 63/22, the General Assembly invited UNESCO, in consultation with Member States, to play a leading role in the preparations for the celebration of the International Year for the Rapprochement among Cultures in 2010.
