For the present, I shall just mention that the items on the Spin-off Benefits of space technology and on space debris are of particular interest to my delegation.

The Committee noted that Governments of Member States had successfully involved the private sector and academia in various projects in the area of spin-offs of space technology.
240- ولاحظت اللجنة أن حكومات الدول الأعضاء قد نجحت في إشراك القطاع الخاص والأوساط الأكاديمية في مشاريع شتى تتعلق بالفوائد العرضية لتكنولوجيا الفضاء.

Organized as part of the 1998 activities of the Programme, the second United Nations International Conference on Spin-off Benefits of Space Technology: Challenges and Opportunities was a response to that mandate.
وكان مؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة الدولي الثاني المعني بالفوائد العرضية للتكنولوجيا الفضائية : التحديات والفرص ، الذي نظم بصفته جزء من أنشطة البرنامج لعام ٨٩٩١ ، هو استجابة الى هذه الولاية .

38. The Committee took note of a possible Second United Nations International Conference on Spin-off Benefits of Space Technology: Challenges and Opportunities, to be held in the United States of America in October or November 1997.
٣٨ - وأحاطت اللجنة علما بإمكانية عقد مؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة الدولي الثاني المعني بالفوائد العرضية لتكنولوجيا الفضاء: التحديات والفرص، الذي سيعقد في الولايات المتحدة اﻷمريكية في تشرين اﻷول/أكتوبر أو تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر ١٩٩٧.

146. The view was expressed that promotion of basic and advanced research in developing countries could be helpful to medium- and long-term space Spin-off Benefits.
١٤٦ - وأعرب عن رأي مفاده أن تشجيع البحث اﻷساسي والمتقدم في البلدان النامية قد يساعــد في الانتفاع بالفوائد العرضية الفضائية على المدى المتوسط والمدى الطويل.

The view was expressed that there was a need to consider the establishment of a coordinating body to serve as a centre for the collection of information related to the Spin-off Benefits of space technology and for the dissemination of such information, particularly to the international scientific and industrial communities, in order to expand the scope of utilization of those benefits.
وأعرب عن رأي مفاده أن هناك حاجة الى النظر في انشاء هيئة تنسيقية تكون مركزا لجمع المعلومات المتعلقة بالفوائد العرضية للتكنولوجيا الفضائية ولتعميم تلك المعلومات، ولا سيما على اﻷوساط العلمية والصناعية الدولية، من أجل توسيع نطاق الانتفاع بتلك الفوائد.

Following the recommendation of this Committee at its last session, planning is under way for the holding of an international workshop on Spin-off Benefits of space technology, to be sponsored by the United Nations Programme on Space Applications.
وبناء على التوصية التي قدمتها هــذه اللجنـــة في دورتها اﻷخيرة يجري التخطيط لعقد حلقة العمل الدولية المعنية بالفوائد العرضية لتكنولوجيـــا الفضــاء تحــت رعاية برنامج اﻷمم المتحــدة للتطبيقــات الفضائيــة.

تقرير عن مؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة الدولي الثاني المعني بالفوائد العرضية لتكنولوجيا الفضاء : التحديات والفرص )تامبا ، فلوريدا ، الولايات المتحدة اﻷمريكية ، ٠٣ آذار/مارس - ٣ نيسان/أبريل ٨٩٩١(

The view was expressed that a small group of experts should be established to prepare a document containing proposals on means of assisting the United Nations Programme on Space Applications in disseminating information on the Spin-off Benefits of space technology, in particular with a view to making such information available to developing countries.
257- وأُعرب عن رأي مفاده أنه ينبغي إنشاء فريق خبراء صغير لإعداد وثيقة تتضمن اقتراحات بشأن سبل مساعدة برنامج الأمم المتحدة للتطبيقات الفضائية في تعميم المعلومات المتعلقة بالفوائد العرضية لتكنولوجيا الفضاء، لا سيما بهدف جعل تلك المعلومات متاحة للبلدان النامية.

(b) The Government of the United States, for co-sponsoring the United Nations/United States of America International Conference on Spin-off Benefits of Space Technology: Challenges and Opportunities, held at Colorado Springs, United States, from 9 to 12 April 1996;
