Under the Convention each State Party must destroy all anti-personnel mines in mined areas on its territory or areas under its jurisdiction or control as soon as possible but not later than ten years after the entry into force of the Convention for that State Party.

During 2002, the Committee on the Rights of the Child will adopt guidelines regarding initial reports that each State party to the Optional Protocol shall submit to the Committee within two years following the entry into force of the Optional Protocol for that State Party.
