Since 1993, UNESCO has organized the annual celebration of the World Press Freedom Day on 3 May, commemorating press freedom and freedom of expression, and paying tribute to journalists.
فمنذ عام 1993، تنظّم اليونسكو احتفالاً سنويًا باليوم العالمي لحرية الصحافة في 3 أيار/مايو، تمجِّد فيه حرية الصحافة وحرية التعبير وتشيد بالصحفيين.

Many delegations recalled the important commemoration of World Press Freedom Day on 2 May 1997, with one speaker characterizing the programme arranged by the Department of Public Information as “superb”.

An observance of World Press Freedom Day on 3 May 2000 marked the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of the Department's annual training programme for broadcasters and journalists from developing countries, with a panel discussion on the theme " Reporting the news in a dangerous world: the role of media in conflict settlement, reconciliation and peace-building " , in which several alumni of the programme participated.
