28. The majority of delegations voiced their support for the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the measures regarding information and communications and agreed that it would serve as a very useful basis for the Committee’s deliberations.

The present report is submitted to the Committee on Information in accordance with General Assembly resolution 52/70 B of 10 December 1997, in which the Assembly asked me to report to the Committee on the implementation of the measures regarding information and communications approved by the Assembly.

1. In its resolution 52/70 B of 10 December 1997, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to report to the Committee on Information at its twentieth session, and to the Assembly at its fifty-third session, on United Nations public information activities and on the implementation of the measures regarding information and communications approved by the Assembly.
١ - طلبت الجمعية العامة إلى اﻷمين العام، في قرارها ٥٢/٧٠ باء المؤرخ ١٠ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٩٧، أن يقدم تقريرا إلى لجنة اﻹعلام في دورتها العشرين، وإلى الجمعية العامة في دورتها الثالثة والخمسين، عن أنشطة اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹعلامية، وعن تنفيذ التدابير المتعلقة باﻹعلام والاتصال التي أقرتها الجمعية.

6. Also requests the Secretary-General to report to the Committee on Information at its twentieth session, and to the General Assembly at its fifty-third session, on United Nations public information activities, and on the implementation of the measures regarding information and communications approved by the Assembly;

4. As he has stated in his report entitled “Implementation of the measures regarding information and communications” (A/AC.198/1998/2), the Secretary-General concurs with “the conceptual approach and the thrust of the recommendations” of the Task Force.

١ - طلبت الجمعية العامة إلى اﻷمين العام في قرارها ٥٢/٧٠ باء المؤرخ ١٠ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٩٧ " أن يقدم إلى لجنة اﻹعلام في دورتها العشرين وإلى الجمعية العامة في دورتها الثالثة والخمسين تقريرا عن أنشطة إدارة شؤون اﻹعلام وعن تنفيذ التدابير المتعلقة باﻹعلام والاتصال التي أقرتها الجمعية " .

The necessary conceptual framework for such policies was elaborated in the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the measures regarding information and communications (A/AC.198/1998/2) submitted to the Committee on Information for consideration at its twentieth session (4 to 15 May 1998).

Special attention is devoted to the role of the information superhighway, or Internet, the implications of which for the exposure of children to potentially harmful materials, in addition to the wealth of information and communication possibilities it offers, have not yet been fully understood.
ويوجه اهتمام خاص إلى دور شبكة المعلومات العالمية الكبرى، أو اﻹنترنت التي لم يفهم بعد على نحو كامل اﻵثار المترتبة عليها فيما يتعلق بتعريض اﻷطفال للمواد التي يحتمل أن تكون مؤذية، باﻹضافة إلى غزارة اﻹمكانيات التي تقدمها فيما يتعلق باﻹعلام والاتصال.

38. After outlining what the information and communication policy of the Haitian Government would be once democracy was restored, he described the measures the Government would take in the field of information to encourage Haitians to stay in Haiti, and he reiterated the need to establish a United Nations information centre at Port-au-Prince.
٣٨ - وبعد أن قدم السيد رودريغ الخطوط العريضة لما ستكون عليه سياسة حكومة هايتي فيما يتعلق باﻹعلام والاتصال بعد إعادة الديمقراطية، قدم شرحا للتدابير التي ستتخذها الحكومة في ميدان اﻹعلام لحث أبناء هايتي على البقاء في بلدهم وأكد من جديد ضرورة افتتاح مركز إعلامي لﻷمم المتحدة في بور أو برانس.
