Law on Lao Nationality establishes that the mother has the same right as the father to confer her nationality on her children, irrespective of whether she acquired it by birth or naturalization.
وينص القانون المتعلق بجنسية لاو على أن الأم تتمتع بنفس الحقوق التي يتمتع بها الأب لمنح جنسيتها إلى أطفالها، بغض النظر عما إذا كانت قد اكتسبتها بالميلاد أو بالتجنس.

Lao Nationality is acquired at birth, by grant and on other grounds as defined in Articles 11 to 14 of the Law on Lao Nationality.
وتُكتسب جنسية لاو عند الميلاد وبالمنح وعلى أسس أخرى كما هي محددة في المواد من 11 إلى 14 من القانون المتعلق بجنسية لاو.

The following shall be a Lao by birth (Articles 9 and 10 of the Law on Lao Nationality):

According to Article 1 in the Law on Lao Nationality (1991) " a Lao citizen is:
وطبقا للمادة 1 من القانون المتعلق بجنسية لاو (1991) فإن " مواطن لاو هو:

All individuals, both men and women, can re-acquire the Lao Nationality by submitting their requests with the authorization of the National Assembly's Standing Committee of the Lao People's Democratic Republic according to the Article 18 of the Law on Lao Nationality.
ويمكن لجميع الأفراد، رجالا ونساء على حد سواء، إعادة اكتساب جنسية لاو بتقديم طلباتهم مشفوعة بإذن اللجنة الدائمة للجمعية الوطنية في جمهورية لاو الديمقراطية الشعبية وفقا للمادة 18 من القانون المتعلق بجنسية لاو.

Article 24 provides, " If a parent has relinquished nationality while the other parent still retains it, the children will retain Lao Nationality " .
وتنص المادة 24 على ما يلي: " إذا تنازل أحد الأبوين عن الجنسية بينما ظل الآخر محتفظاً بها، فسوف يحتفظ الأطفال بجنسية لاو. "

Article 26 provides, " a child whose nationality is Lao and whose adoptive parents are foreigners or one of them is a foreigner while the other is a Lao national shall retain his/her Lao Nationality.
وتنص المادة 26 على ما يلي: " الطفل الذي يحمل جنسية لاو وأبواه بالتبنِّي أجنبيان أو أحدهما أجنبي والآخر من مواطني لاو يحتفظ بجنسية لاو.

The child in question may relinquish Lao Nationality upon the request of the adoptive parents; a child whose nationality is Lao and whose adoptive parents are stateless or one of them is a stateless and the other is a Lao national shall retain Lao Nationality " .
ويجوز لهذا الطفل التنازل عن جنسية لاو بناء على طلب الأبوين بالتبنِّي؛ والطفل الذي يحمل جنسية لاو وأبواه بالتبنِّي من عديمي الجنسية أو أحدهما عديم الجنسية والآخر من مواطني لاو يحتفظ بجنسية لاو. "

According to the Law on Lao Nationality (Article 17) the " acquired Lao Nationality can be withdrawn within a period of ten years from the day it is acquired if it is seen that individuals having acquired the Lao nationality:
وطبقا للقانون المتعلق بجنسية لاو (المادة 17) فإنه " يمكن سحب جنسية لاو المكتسبة وذلك في خلال فترة مدتها عشر سنوات من يوم اكتسابها إذا ارتئي أن الفرد الذي اكتسب جنسية لاو:

According to Article 21 of the Law on Lao Nationality, " If one parent has relinquished the Lao Nationality while the other parent has maintained the Lao Nationality, the children will keep the Lao Nationality. "
وطبقا للمادة 21 من القانون المتعلق بجنسية لاو، " إذا تخلى أحد الوالدين عن جنسية لاو في حين احتفظ الوالد الآخر بجنسية لاو، فإن الأطفال يحتفظون بجنسية لاو " .

UNHCR also recommended that the Lao People's Democratic Republic: reform the Law on Lao Nationality to provide protection so that all children born in the territory who were otherwise stateless acquired Lao citizenship; and facilitate the naturalization of stateless persons.
٩- وأوصت مفوضية الأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين أيضاً جمهورية لاو الديمقراطية الشعبية بإصلاح القانون المتعلق بجنسية لاو لتوفير الحماية اللازمة كيما يتسنى لجميع الأطفال المولودين على أراضيها الحصول على جنسية لاو لتجنيبهم حالة انعدام الجنسية؛ وتيسير تجنس الأشخاص عديمي الجنسية(22).
