1. Takes note with appreciation of the interim report of the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Nigeria; See A/53/366 and Add. 1.

The Special Rapporteur looks forward to reading the report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Nigeria (E/CN.4/1998/62).

5. The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Nigeria was appointed in accordance with Commission resolution 1997/53, which was endorsed by the Economic and Social Council in decision 1997/263.

The Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Nigeria had been appointed only in October and therefore had been unable to submit a report to the Committee.
فالمقـرر الخاص للجنة حقوق اﻹنسان المعني بحالة حقوق اﻹنسان في نيجيريا لم يعيﱠن إلا في تشرين اﻷول/أكتوبر وبالتالي لم يتسن له تقديم تقرير إلى اللجنة.

He recalled that the resolution on the situation of human rights in Nigeria introduced in the Committee the previous year had been opposed vigorously by his delegation and had not been adopted by consensus.
٦٥ - وذكﱠر بأن وفده قد عارض بقوة القرار المتعلق بحالة حقوق اﻹنسان في نيجيريا الذي عرض على اللجنة في العام الماضي ولم يُعتمد القرار بتوافق اﻵراء.

Mr. Nsanze Terence (Burundi): My delegation would like briefly to explain the reasons that have led it to oppose the draft resolution on the situation of human rights in Nigeria.

34. Mr. Sorabjee (Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Nigeria), introducing his interim report (A/53/366), expressed regret that he was unable to report his findings to the General Assembly based upon a visit to Nigeria.
٣٤ - السيد سورابجي )المقرر الخاص المعني بحالة حقوق اﻹنسان في نيجيريا(: أعرب في معرض تقديم تقريره المؤقت عن اﻷسف لعدم تمكنه من عرض استنتاجاته على الجمعية العامة على أساس زيارة إلى نيجيريا.

78. Pursuant to resolution 1997/53, the Chairman of the Commission has appointed Mr. Tiyanjana Maluwa (Malawi) as Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Nigeria.
٨٧- عملاً بالقرار ٧٩٩١/٣٥، قام رئيس اللجنة بتعيين السيد تيانجانا مالووا )ملاوي( مقررا خاصا معنيا بحالة حقوق اﻹنسان في نيجيريا.

Pursuant to that resolution, the Chairman of the Commission appointed Mr. Tiyanjana Maluwa (Malawi) as Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Nigeria.
وعملاً بهذا القرار عين رئيس اللجنة السيد تيانجانا مالوا )ملاوي( مقررا خاصاً للجنة حقوق اﻹنسان معني بحالة حقوق اﻹنسان في نيجيريا.
