In the same resolution, the General Assembly requested the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with Governments, to continue to implement fully all provisions of resolution 49/122 in order to operationalize the Small Island Developing States Technical Assistance Programme (SIDSTAP) and the Small Island Developing States Information Network (SIDSNET).

At the subregional, regional and interregional levels, the small island developing States Technical Assistance Programme that is being developed represents an important instrument, particularly in regard to the use of technical cooperation among developing countries (TCDC) mechanisms for furthering the implementation of the Programme of Action.
٦٩ - يمثل برنامج المساعدة التقنية للدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية، على الصعد دون اﻹقليمية واﻹقليمية واﻷقاليمية، الذي تجري بلورته حاليا أداة هامة ولا سيما فيمـا يتعلق بالاستعانة بآليـات التعـاون التقني فيما بين البلدان النامية من أجل تعزيز تنفيـذ برنامج العمل.

32. The objective of the Small Island Developing States Technical Assistance Programme (SIDSTAP) is to facilitate the exchange of experience and knowledge among small island developing States and between those States and other countries for enhancing the quality and broadening the choice of sustainable development expertise of small island developing States.
٢٣ - وهدف برنامج المساعدة التقنية للدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية هو تسهيل تبادل الخبرات والمعرفة ما بين هذه الدول، وبينها وبين الدول اﻷخرى، لتعزيز النوعية وتوسيع خبرة الدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية فيما يتعلق بخيارات التنمية المستدامة.

55. Similarly, as requested in paragraph 106 of the Programme of Action, UNDP has also carried out a feasibility study on SIDS/TAP (A/49/459), a small island developing States Technical Assistance Programme, which is seen as an important instrument for operationalizing the Programme of Action.

Various strategic initiatives augured well for the future, in particular the Small Island Developing States Technical Assistance Programme, the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) and the Asia-Africa Forum (Bandung) which should stimulate the more effective implementation of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action for Promoting and Implementing Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries.

We call for the establishment of a small island developing States interregional technical cooperation agreement, which will allow for the further strengthening of the Small Island Developing States Technical Assistance Programme, and the exchange of technical expertise and information on sustainable development priority areas for small island developing States.

In 1997, the General Assembly, in its resolution 51/183, recognizing the importance of information exchange on capacity development among small island developing States in advancing the implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action, established, within the Small Island Developing States Unit, the Small Island Developing States Technical Assistance Programme (SIDSTAP) and the Small Island Developing States Network (SIDSNet).

UNDP continues to provide assistance to small island developing States through many of its programmes and activities (Small Island Developing States Technical Assistance Programme or Capacity 21) and by assisting GEF in the formulation of strategies, plans and capacity-building programmes for the sustainable development of small island developing States.
