42. In its resolution 23/17 on national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights, the Human Rights Council requested the Secretary-General to report to the Council at its twenty-seventh session on the implementation of that resolution.

Australia welcomes the rapid development of human rights institutions in many countries, the three international workshops on national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights and the creation of the coordinating committee by national institutions at the Second International Workshop on National Institutions held at Tunis in December 1993.

The promotion of the human rights of women was also affirmed in resolution 2000/76 on national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights, in which national institutions promoting human rights were called upon to participate in the five-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action.

The Commission also adopted resolution 2005/74 on national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights, in which it affirmed the important role of national human rights institutions, in cooperation with other mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights, to protect and promote the human rights of women.
