The Member States of the United Nations should give teeth to asylum laws and the principle of nonrefoulement, and work to ensure compliance with General Assembly resolution 66/172 on the protection of migrants.

On 2 August 2001, the Government of Guatemala transmitted a detailed report on the protection of migrants in Guatemala, which includes information on the characteristics of migrant populations in Guatemala, legislation and administrative measures which have been adopted, as well as specific commitments made in regard to this question, within the framework of the Guatemalan Peace Accords.
