They reiterated the importance of facilitating the participation of the Forum Island Countries in the special session and its preparatory process, and called on countries to pledge support through voluntary contributions.

Forum Communication Ministers decided in 1999 that Forum Island Countries need to monitor developments and participate actively in international fora to promote equitable pricing, consider the broader interests of consumers and economic development, and promote access principles that encourage the development of Internet infrastructure and services.

32. The Forum adopted the Convention to Ban the Importation into Forum Island Countries of Hazardous and Radioactive Wastes and to Control the Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Wastes within the South Pacific Region (Waigani Convention) for signature on 16 September 1995.

Leaders commended the work undertaken by Oceania Customs Organisation, South Pacific Chiefs of Police Conference and the Forum Secretariat sub-Committee on developing a regional illicit drug control legislation. The Forum encouraged all Forum Island Countries to examine the possibility of enacting the legislation in its entirety noting that jurisdictions have to vet and scrutinise the draft in accordance with their own procedures.
وأثنى الزعماء على العمل الذي تضطلع به منظمة الجمارك في أوقيانوسيا، ومؤتمر رؤساء شرطة جنوب المحيط الهادئ، واللجنة الفرعية المنبثقة عن أمانة المنتدى والمعنية بسن قوانين إقليمية لمكافحة المخدرات غير المشروعة، وشجع المنتدى جميع بلدان المنتدى الجزرية على النظر في إمكانية سن قوانين بكاملها، مشيرا إلى أن على الهيئات القانونية أن تدقق وتمحص مشاريع القوانين وفقا للإجراءات الخاصة بها.

In the Pacific region, the Convention to Ban the Importation into Forum Island Countries of Hazardous and Radioactive Wastes and to Control the Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Wastes within the South Pacific Region (Waigani Convention) entered into force on 21 October 2001 following the tenth ratification.

Samoa has also signed and ratified the 1995 Convention to Ban the Importation into Forum Island Countries of Hazardous and Radioactive Wastes and to Control the Trans-boundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Wastes within the South Pacific (the Waigani Convention).
كما وقَّعت ساموا وصدَّقت على اتفاقية عام 1995 لحظر استيراد النفايات الخطرة والمشعة إلى بلدان المنتدى الجزرية ومراقبة حركة النفايات الخطرة عبر الحدود وإدارتها داخل منطقة جنوب المحيط الهادئ (اتفاقية وايغاني).

Recognizing the importance of effective coordination and implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts at all levels -- and particularly at the national level -- Forum leaders have endorsed a set of principles that will guide Forum Island Countries and development partners in this regard, bearing in mind existing and ongoing efforts in the region.

The Twenty-sixth South Pacific Forum, which took place this past September at Madang, Papua New Guinea, adopted for signature a Convention to Ban the Importation into Forum Island Countries of Hazardous and Radioactive Wastes and to Control the Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Wastes within the South Pacific Region — the Waigani Convention.
إن منتدى جنوب المحيط الهادئ السادس والعشرين، الذي انعقد في أيلول/سبتمبر الماضي في مادانغ، بابوا غينيا الجديدة، اعتمد، بغرض التوقيع، اتفاقية حظر استيراد النفايات الخطرة والمشعة إلى بلدان المنتدى الجزرية ومراقبة حركة النفايات الخطرة عبر الحدود وإدارة هذه النفايات داخل منطقة جنوب المحيط الهادئ )اتفاقية وايغاني(.

A number of these exist, such as the Convention to Ban the Importation into Forum Island Countries of Hazardous and Radioactive Wastes and to Control the Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Wastes within the South Pacific Region, and the Bamako Convention. One such example is the OECD Decision C(2001)107/Final concerning the control of transboundary movements of wastes destined for recovery operations.
