Although there was some support for the article, a number of delegations suggested that a specific provision relating to the meeting time of the Committee so as to allow it to carry out its functions under the protocol, as proposed in article 16 of document E/CN.6/1997/WG/L.1, was inappropriate and linked to resourcing of the proposed protocol.

1- توصي بأن تنظر الدول الأطراف، بعين التشجيع، في تعديل المادة 20 من الاتفاقية فيما يتعلق بمدة اجتماع اللجنة، حتى تمكنها من الاجتماع سنويا وللمدة اللازمة لأدائها الفعال لمهامها بموجب إطار الاتفاقية، دون النص على أي تقييد بعينه، باستثناء ما تقرره الجمعية العامة؛

1. Recommends that the States parties favourably consider amending article 20 of the Convention in respect of the meeting time of the Committee, so as to allow it to meet annually for such duration as is necessary for the effective performance of its functions under the Convention, with no specific restriction except for that which the General Assembly shall decide;

The Committee encourages the State party to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and to accept, as soon as possible, the amendment to article 20, paragraph 1, of the Convention, concerning the meeting time of the Committee.

For example, the authorization of additional meeting time for a Committee to consider 20 more State party reports in one year would require approximately 600 additional Committee secretariat working days, which would translate to almost one year of service on the part of three additional staff members.
