It was established by H.H. وقد أسَّسها صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، نائب رئيس دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة رئيس مجلس وزراء وحاكم دبي، تقديراً لنهج ورؤى وإنجازات الرئيس السابق، الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان الذي سعى سعياً دؤوباً إلى المحافظة على البيئة وحمايتها من أجل الأجيال القادمة في بلده والمنطقة والعالم.

Today, the League of Arab States is an influential international organization that plays an important role in strengthening international security and stability. Its friendly and fruitful relations with the United Nations must, to a large extent, be attributed to the efforts of His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
أما جامعة الدول العربية التي باتت اليوم منظمة دولية مؤثرة تؤدي دورا هاما في تعزيز الأمن والاستقرار، فإن علاقاتها الودية والمثمرة مع الأمم المتحدة، يجب أن تنسب، في جزء كبير منها، إلى جهود سمو الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان.

As we take part in this important event, let us not forget the great leaders who have passed away in the course of the past year: Sheikh Zayid Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, with his nationalism and his eminent stature, Yasir Arafat, with his revolutionary ardour and his glorious struggle, and Rafiq al-Hariri, with all that he symbolized in terms of nationalism and his contribution to the rebuilding of his country.
