8. Mr. Makarowski (Sweden), speaking on behalf of the five Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden), said that the work of UNCITRAL was widely recognized for its contributions to the development of international trade law.

The Commission emphasized the importance of undertaking legislative development on those topics on which it was likely that consensus could be achieved, for which an economic need (in the sense used in document A/CN.9/774) existed, and which were likely to result in a legislative text with a beneficial effect on the development of international trade law.
