The Committee considered the fourth periodic report of Ecuador (CCPR/C/84/Add.6) at its 1673rd and 1674th meetings, on 14 July 1998, and at its 1692nd meeting, on 27 July 1998, adopted the following observations.

12. In its concluding observations on the report of Ecuador, the Committee reiterated its concern about the failure to undertake consultations as a basis for obtaining the prior, freely given and informed consent of indigenous peoples and nationalities for natural resource development projects that affect them.

1. The Committee considered the initial report of Ecuador (CRC/C/OPSC/ECU/1) at its 1476th meeting (see CRC/C/SR.1476), held on 19 January 2010, and adopted at its 1501st meeting, held on 29 January 2010, the following concluding observations.

1. The Committee considered the initial report of Ecuador (CRPD/C/ECU/1) at its 153rd and 154th meetings, held on 22 and 23 September 2014, respectively, and adopted the following concluding observations at its 168th meeting, held on 2 October 2014.

3. Ms. García Alvarado (Ecuador) recalled that, after consideration of the previous report of Ecuador, the Committee had recommended the strengthening of the national mechanism to protect women's rights, which had resulted in the establishment of the National Council for Women (CONAMU) in 1997. It reported directly to the Office of the President and enjoyed a high degree of political and financial autonomy.

The Permanent Mission of Ecuador to the United Nations presents its compliments to the Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) and, with reference to his note SCA/2/03(03) of 4 March 2003, has the honour to transmit herewith the report of Ecuador pursuant to paragraphs 6 and 12 of Security Council resolution 1455 (2003) (see annex).

32. Ecuador's report asserts that " Women who venture into politics in Ecuador face ingrained cultural prejudices in the political parties and their leaders about women entering the world of politics, historically considered a public and therefore exclusively masculine domain " .
32 - ومن تقرير إكوادور يتبين أن " النساء اللائي يدخلن معترك السياسة يواجهن انتقادات اجتماعية مترسخة بقوة لدى الأحزاب السياسية وزعمائها حيال اقتحامهن عالم السياسة، الذي جرت العادة على اعتباره من مجالات العمل العام، وبالتالي مقصورا على الرجال.

41. Ms. GARCIA-PRINCE said that, as a Latin American, she was deeply moved and distressed by Ecuador's report, and thanked the representative of that country for her frankness.

V. Contributions to the Millennium Development Goals 6. The inter-agency intercultural theme group supported the preparation of Ecuador's report on the Millennium Development Goals from the perspective of the indigenous peoples and Afro-Ecuadorian Peoples.
