23. Mr. Ja'afari (Syrian Arab Republic) said that the ESCWA report was one of many United Nations reports that had documented the unprecedented toll of the occupation on resources and humans.

The facts and figures contained in the ESCWA report (A/59/89-E/2004/21) indicated the existence of a humanitarian catastrophe of which the entire world, and the United Nations in particular, should take note, particularly in view of the economic and social consequences of the Israeli practice of destroying and plundering resources and property.
وتبين الحقائق والأرقام الواردة في تقرير اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا (A/59/89-E/2004/21) وجود كارثة إنسانية ينبغي أن يأخذ علما بها العالم بأسره والأمم المتحدة على وجه الخصوص، وخاصة في ضوء المسائل الاقتصادية والاجتماعية للممارسة الإسرائيلية في تدمير ونهب الموارد والممتلكات.

25. Mr. Al-Muharraqi (Bahrain) said that the ESCWA report showed how Palestinians and Syrians suffered under Israeli occupation and how their resources were being drained despite repeated United Nations resolutions such as General Assembly resolution 60/183.

28. Mr. Al-Suleem (Saudi Arabia) said that the ESCWA report showed that Israeli occupation measures were contrary to the principles of international human rights law, all revealed religions and international conventions.
28- السيد السليم (المملكة العربية السعودية): قال إن تقرير اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا يبين أن تدابير الاحتلال الإسرائيلي تتعارض مع مبادئ قانون حقوق الإنسان الدولي والأديان والاتفاقات الدولية.

29. Mr. Jawhara (Syrian Arab Republic) said that the ESCWA report shed new light on the economic and social suffering of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories and Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan, including the exploitation and squandering of their natural resources.
29 - السيد جوهرة (الجمهورية العربية السورية): قال إن تقرير اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا يلقي مجددا الضوء على المعاناة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية التي يواجهها الشعب الفلسطيني في الأراضي المحتلة والمواطنون السوريون في الجولان المحتل، بما في ذلك استغلال وتبديد مواردهم الطبيعية.

50. Mr. Kurer (Libyan Arab Jamahiriya) said that the ESCWA report showed that Israel's recourse to killings, expulsions, blockades and the use of terror against Palestinians had increased.

أما تقرير اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا المعنون " International migration and Development in the ESCWA region: challenges and opportunities " (الهجرة الدولية والتنمية في منطقة اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا: التحديات والفرص)، فركَّز على حجم وتأثير هجرة العمالة، والتحويلات المالية، ونزيف الأدمغة، ومشاركة جماعات الشتات في المنطقة، وفحص الإطار القانوني الذي تحدث الهجرة في ظله.

He said that the ESCWA report on the economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan (A/59/89-E/2004/21), illustrated the difficulty in tracking the causes of that situation.

14. Jordan was deeply concerned about the impact on young people of Israeli practices in the territory under its occupation, such as massive school closures due to movement restrictions that confined children to their homes and damage inflicted on schools, as described in paragraph 41 of the ESCWA report.
14 - واختتم قائلا إن الأردن يشعر ببالغ القلق إزاء الأثر على الشباب بسبب الممارسات الإسرائيلية في الأراضي الخاضعة لاحتلالها، مثل إغلاق المدارس المتكرر بسبب القيود المفروضة على التنقل والتي حبست الأطفال في منازلهم وبسبب الأضرار التي لحقت بالمدارس، على النحو المبيَّن في الفقرة 41 من تقرير اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا (الإسكوا).
