Ms. Tallawy congratulated the Tunisian Government on recognizing both the need to reinforce the gains already made in Tunisia and the responsibility it bore towards women in the rest of the Arab world.

32. Ms. Tallawy said that the Committee would depend heavily on the focal point in the Centre to promote the true integration of women's issues in human rights; it was therefore critical that the focal point should have the necessary authority, resources and personnel.
٢٣ - السيدة تلاوي: قالت إن اللجنة سوف تعتمد بشكل كبير على مركز التنسيق بالمركز لتعزيز اﻹدماج الحقيقي لقضايا المرأة في حقوق اﻹنسان. ولذلك فلابد أن يكون لمركز التنسيق ما يلزم من السلطات والموارد والموظفين.

48. Ms. Tallawy said she, too, had been impressed by the thoroughness of New Zealand's report, the legislation it had enacted relating to equality issues, and by the projects implemented in connection with the celebration of the centennial of women's suffrage in that country.

6. Ms. Tallawy said that she had difficulty with introducing an issue unrelated to reservations in that section of the report, as it would weaken the Committee's position in its recommendation on reservations if it criticized Governments which had not made any reservations to the Convention.
٦ - السيدة تلاوي: قالت إنها تجد صعوبة في تقبل إضافة مسألة غير ذات صلة بالتحفظات في هذا الجزء من التقرير، إذ يضعف موقف اللجنة في توصيتها المتعلقة بالتحفظات أن تنتقد الحكومات التي لم تبد أي تحفظات على الاتفاقية.

2. Ms. Tallawy (Egypt), responding to the question on Egypt's reservations to the Convention, said that the Government was doing its utmost to take the necessary steps to withdraw its reservations.

Ms. Tallawy (Egypt), in response to Ms. Manalo's concerns, said the National Council for Women, created by presidential decree, had its own budget and enjoyed a special status; it had great freedom in its spending decisions, was the sole body responsible for gender issues and represented Egypt in that regard at the international level.
