17. The Department began to reorient its work over four years ago, and we have made real progress towards creating a culture of communications within the Organization.

Other strategic goals of the new orientation are: to place communications and information functions at the heart of the strategic management of the Organization; provide overall direction and coordination of a unified communications strategy; and develop a culture of communications throughout the Organization.

It was recommended that the chair of the Group at its 2002 annual session bring to the attention of the High-level Committee on Programmes of the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination the need for involving communications experts in the strategic planning and overall decision-making process to promote a culture of communications.

9. To help achieve the communications goals of the Organization and promote a culture of communications as a priority objective for all senior officials and their departments, a number of innovations, including structural changes, have been introduced in the Secretariat over the past two years.

5. Several members of JUNIC emphasized the crucial importance of strategic communications as a means of generating broader support for the objectives of the Organization, both internally, through the development of a culture of communications at all levels of the Organization, as well as in dealing with potential outside partners.
٥ - وأكد عدة أعضاء من أعضاء لجنة اﻹعلام المشتركة اﻷهمية البالغة للاتصالات الاستراتيجية كوسيلة لتأمين دعم أوسع ﻷهداف المنظمة، وذلك من خلال تطوير ثقافة اتصالات داخليا على جميع صعد المنظمة، وفي التعامل مع الشركاء المحتملين في الخارج.

The Secretary-General has indeed placed the information and communications function at the heart of the strategic management of the Organization, and as a result, a user-oriented, demand-driven communications culture is steadily evolving.
ووضع بالفعل الأمين العام وظيفة الإعلام والاتصالات في صميم الإدارة الاستراتيجية للمنظمة، ونتيجة لذلك أخذت تظهر ثقافة اتصالات تخدم المستعملين وتستجيب لطلباتهم.

30. In addressing the public information policies of the United Nations, all delegations expressed support for the reorientation of the Department of Public Information, which had been initiated by the Secretary-General to strengthen the role of public information and as an important part of his efforts to create a culture of communication within the Organization.
