8. Political killings attributed to agents of the Iraqi State have characterized the situation of human rights in Iraq for a very long time.
٨ - وقد خيﱠم على حالة حقوق الانسان في العراق لفترة طويلة عمليات القتل السياسي التي تعزى إلى عناصر تابعين للحكومة العراقية.

Indeed, it is the opinion of the Special Rapporteur that the situation of human rights in Iraq in all spheres, whether civil, cultural, economic, political or social, has deteriorated in the last year.

It is well known that the flow of refugees basically came to a halt a short time before the adoption of resolution 688 (1991). Therefore, the connection that the Special Rapporteur seeks to establish between the situation of human rights in Iraq and the maintenance of peace in the region did not exist at the time resolution 688 (1991) was adopted and, all the more so, does not exist now.

14. Decides to continue its consideration of the situation of human rights in Iraq during its fiftieth session under the item entitled " Human rights questions " in the light of additional elements provided by the Commission on Human Rights and the Economic and Social Council.
١٤ - تقرر مواصلة النظر في حالة حقوق الانسان في العراق خلال دورتها الخمسين في إطار البند المعنون " مسائل حقوق الانسان " ، في ضوء العناصر اﻹضافية التي تقدمها لجنة حقوق اﻹنسان والمجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي.
