The draft United Nations international study on firearm regulation was made available to the Commission at its sixth session.

In addition to their intended purpose of exchanging data and other information on firearm regulation, the workshops achieved other important goals, such as the following:

INTRODUCTION The Economic and Social Council, in its resolution 1997/28, reiterated its request to the Secretary-General to publish the United Nations international study on firearm regulation.
١ - كرر المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي ، في قراره ٧٩٩١/٨٢ ، طلبه الى اﻷمين العام بأن ينشر دراسة اﻷمم المتحدة الدولية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية .

With the support of the Governments of Australia, Canada and Japan, the Centre for International Crime Prevention of the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention of the Secretariat is taking steps to publish in English, French and Spanish the United Nations International Study on firearm regulation, which will include information provided by 69 Governments.
وبدعم من حكومات أستراليا وكندا واليابان ، يقوم المركز المعني بمنع الاجرام الدولي التابع لمكتب مراقبة المخدرات ومنع الجريمة التابع لﻷمانة العامة ، باتخاذ خطوات لنشر دراسة اﻷمم المتحدة الدولية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية باللغات الانكليزية والفرنسية والاسبانية ، متضمنة معلومات مقدمة من ٩٦ حكومة .

The workshops were conducted with the assistance of a consultant who placed the results of the United Nations International Study on firearm regulation in the context of each region with a view to maximizing the synergy of the workshops, leading to better bilateral and multilateral law enforcement and other practical cooperation.
وعقدت حلقات العمل بمساعدة مستشار وضع نتائج دراسة اﻷمم المتحدة الدولية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية في سياق كل منطقة من أجل الوصول الى أقصى درجات التعاون بين حلقات العمل مما يؤدي الى تحسين التعاون العملي في مجال انفاذ القوانين وغيره من المجالات على الصعيدين الثنائي والمتعدد اﻷطراف .

The regional workshop on firearm regulation in Europe was held at Ljubljana from 22 to 26 September 1997 at the invitation of the Government of Slovenia.
٦ - وعقدت حلقة العمل الاقليمية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية في أوروبا ، في ليوبليانا من ٢٢ الى ٦٢ أيلول/سبتمبر ٧٩٩١ ، بدعوة من حكومة سلوفينيا .

The regional workshop on firearm regulation in Africa was held at Arusha from 3 to 7 November 1997 at the invitation of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
٧ - وعقدت حلقة العمل الاقليمية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية في افريقيا ، في أروشا ، من ٣ الى ٧ تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر ٧٩٩١ ، بدعوة من حكومة جمهورية تنزانيا المتحدة .

The regional workshop on firearm regulation in the Americas was held at São Paulo from 8 to 12 December 1997 at the invitation of the Government of Brazil and the Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders.
٨ - وعقدت حلقة العمل الاقليمية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية في القارة اﻷمريكية ، في ساوباولو ، من ٨ الى ٢١ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ٧٩٩١ ، بدعوة من حكومة البرازيل ومعهد منع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين في أمريكا اللاتينية .

Using the outcome of the study as the basis for discussion, the Centre organized four regional workshops on firearm regulation for the purposes of crime prevention and public safety between September 1997 and January 1998, in Brazil, India, Slovenia and the United Republic of Tanzania.
وباستخدام نتائج الدراسة أساسا للمناقشات ، نظم المركز أربع حلقات عمل اقليمية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية ﻷغراض منع الجريمة والسلامة العامة عقدت ما بين أيلول/سبتمبر ٧٩٩١ وكانون الثاني/يناير ٨٩٩١ في البرازيل وجمهورية تنزانيا المتحدة وسلوفينيا والهند .

II. REGIONAL WORKSHOPS on firearm regulation Pursuant to Economic and Social Council resolutions 1996/28 and 1997/28, four workshops on firearm regulation were held between September 1997 and January 1998: in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.
٥ - عملا بقراري المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي ٦٩٩١/٨٢ و ٧٩٩١/٨٢ ، عقدت أربع حلقات عمل حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية بين أيلول/سبتمبر ٧٩٩١ وكانون الثاني/يناير ٨٩٩١ في افريقيا ، والقارة اﻷمريكية ، وآسيا ، وأوروبا .

The regional workshop on firearm regulation in Asia was held at New Delhi from 27 to 31 January 1998 at the invitation of the Government of India and the National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
٩ - وعقدت حلقة العمل الاقليمية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية في آسيا ، في نيودلهي ، من ٧٢ الى ١٣ كانون الثاني/يناير ٨٩٩١ ، بدعوة من حكومة الهند والمعهد الوطني لعلوم الاجرام والطب الشرعي التابع لوزارة الشؤون الداخلية .

(a) Enabling the results of the United Nations International Study on firearm regulation to be put into practice, including by providing possibilities to fulfil technical assistance needs, by placing the results in a regional context, particularly in African and Asian countries;
)أ( أتيح لنتائج دراسة اﻷمم المتحدة الدولية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية أن توضع موضع التنفيذ العملي ، بما في ذلك تقديم امكانات لتلبية الاحتياجات الى المساعدة التقنية ، عن طريق وضع النتائج في سياق اقليمي ، ولا سيما في البلدان الافريقية واﻵسيوية ؛

IV. CONCLUSION AND PROPOSAL FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE COMMISSION The United Nations International Study on firearm regulation made possible the successful compilation and dissemination of extensive information on the subject, which is both sensitive and, from the standpoint of crime prevention and public safety, important.
٩٤ - ان دراسة اﻷمم المتحدة الدولية حول تنظيم تداول اﻷسلحة النارية جعلت من الممكن تحقيق النجاح في تجميع ونشر قدر كبير من المعلومات عن هذا الموضوع الحساس والذي يعتبر هاما من وجهة نظر منع الجريمة والسلامة العامة ، على حد سواء .
