1. The present report is submitted pursuant to paragraph 5 of Security Council resolution 1093 (1997) of 14 January 1997, in which the Council requested me to submit by 5 July 1997 a report on the situation in the Prevlaka peninsula as well as on progress made by the Republic of Croatia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia towards a settlement which would peacefully resolve their differences.

1. The present report is submitted pursuant to paragraph 7 of Security Council resolution 1147 (1998) of 13 January 1998, in which the Council requested me to report by 5 July 1998 on the situation in the Prevlaka peninsula and on progress made by the Republic of Croatia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia towards a settlement that would peacefully resolve their differences.
١ - هذا التقرير مقدم عملا بالفقرة ٧ من قرار مجلس اﻷمن ١١٤٧ )١٩٩٨( المؤرخ ١٣ كانون الثاني/يناير ١٩٩٨، والذي طلب فيه المجلس إليﱠ أن أقدم تقريرا بحلول ٥ تموز/يوليه ١٩٩٨ عن حالة شبه جزيرة بريفلاكا والتقدم الذي أحرزته جمهورية كرواتيا وجمهورية يوغوسلافيا الاتحادية نحو التوصل إلى تسوية تحل خلافاتهما بالوسائل السلمية.

They urged both countries to resume bilateral dialogue in the spirit of the Lahore Declaration signed on 21 February 1999 and to resolve their differences through peaceful means.
وحثوا كلا البلدين على استئناف الحوار الثنائي مستلهمين بيان لاهور الموقّع في 21 شباط/فبراير 1999 وتسوية خلافاتهما بالوسائل السلمية.

١ - هذا التقرير مقدم عملا بالفقرة ٣ من قرار مجلس اﻷمن ١١١٩ )١٩٩٧( المؤرخ ١٤ تموز/يوليه ١٩٩٧، الذي طلب المجلس فيه أن أقدم بحلول ٥ كانون الثاني/يناير ١٩٩٨ تقريرا عن الحالة في شبه جزيرة بريفلاكا، فضلا عما أحرزته جمهورية كرواتيا وجمهورية يوغوسلافيا الاتحادية من تقدم صوب التوصل إلى تسوية تحل خلافاتهما بالوسائل السلمية في هذه المنطقة.

Following consultations on 26 April, the President spoke to the media on behalf of Council members, conveying their strong support for proximity talks which were to convene at Algiers on 29 April; Council members urged the Governments of Ethiopia and Eritrea to participate in the talks with a renewed commitment to resolving their dispute through peaceful means (see below).
وبعد عقد مشاورات في 26 نيسان/ أبريل، تحدث الرئيس إلى وسائط الإعلام بالنيابة عن أعضاء المجلس، ونقل إليهم دعمه الشديد لمحادثات الجوار التي عُقدت في الجزائر في 29 نيسان/أبريل؛ وحث أعضاء المجلس حكومتي إثيوبيا وإريتريا على المشاركة في المحادثات بالتزام مجدد لحل خلافاتهما بالوسائل السلمية (انظر أدناه).

" The Security Council calls upon the parties to refrain from using force and to settle their disagreements by peaceful means, to normalize their relations, to promote stability between them and to lay the foundation for sustainable peace in the region.
' ' ويدعو مجلس الأمن الطرفين إلى الامتناع عن استخدام القوة وتسوية خلافاتهما بالوسائل السلمية وتطبيع علاقاتهما وتعزيز الاستقرار بينهما وإرساء أسس السلام الدائم في المنطقة.

Following the consultations, the President made a statement to the press on behalf of the members of the Council urging the parties to exercise utmost restraint and to settle their differences through peaceful means (see below).
وفي أعقاب المشاورات، أدلى الرئيس ببيان إلى الصحافة باسم أعضاء المجلس حث فيه الطرفين على ممارسة أقصى قدر من ضبط النفس وتسوية خلافاتهما بالوسائل السلمية (انظر أدناه).
