This includes the obligation to modify " the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " (article 5).

States Parties shall take all appropriate measures: (a) To modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women;
تتخذ الدول الأطراف جميع التدابير المناسبة، لتحقيق ما يلي: (أ) تعديل الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة، بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على فكرة دونية أو تفوّق أحد الجنسين، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة؛

Article 5(b) reinforces this obligation by providing that States must take " all appropriate measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " .
وتعزز المادة 5(ب) هذا الالتزام حيث تنص على أن تتخذ الدول " جميع التدابير المناسبة لتعديل الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة، بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على فكرة دونية أو تفوّق أحد الجنسين، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة " .

It explicitly affirms reproductive choice and health as a human rights issue and also establishes the obligation of States parties " to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " (art. 5 (a)).
وتؤكد الاتفاقية صراحة خيار المرأة في الإنجاب والتمتع بالصحة بوصفها مسألة تتعلق بحقوق الإنسان، وترسي أيضاً التزام الدول الأطراف " بتعديل الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة، بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيز والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على فكرة دونية أو تفوّق أحد الجنسين، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة (المادة 5(أ)).
