2. The Secretary-General proposes to extend the appointment of Rubens Ricupero as Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development for another term of office of four years, beginning on 15 September 1999 and ending on 14 September 2003.
٢ - ويقترح اﻷمين العام تمديد فترة تعيين السيد روبنز ريكوبيرو أمينا عاما لمؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة للتجارة والتنمية لفترة أربع سنوات أخرى تبدأ في ١٥ أيلول/ سبتمبر ١٩٩٩ وتنتهي في ١٤ أيلول/سبتمبر ٢٠٠٣.

Opening the Round Table on Trade and Development Directions for the 21st Century, the Secretary-General of UNCTAD, Mr. Rubens Ricupero stated that the issue of whether movement towards freer trade on a non-discriminatory basis is consistent with the development aspirations of poor countries still vexes public opinion today.

I have proposed for approval by the General Assembly the appointment of Mr. Rubens Ricupero as Secretary-General of UNCTAD. His appointment would be effective as at 15 September 1995.

Pursuant to this resolution, and further to General Assembly decision 47/324 of 16 March 1993, the Secretary-General, following consultations with regional groups, proposes to appoint Mr. Rubens Ricupero as Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development for a term of office of four years, beginning on 15 September 1995 and ending on 14 September 1999.
