Mr. Satoh (Japan): At the outset, I should like to stress that Japan respects the status of the six official languages of the United Nations and that it is by no means our intention to challenge the principle of multilingualism as such.

3. At its 7th meeting, on 6 January 1998, the Committee elected its bureau for 1998, which consisted of Ambassador Hisashi Owada (Japan) as Chairman, who following his departure was succeeded by H.E. Mr. Yukio Satoh (Japan), with the delegations of Bahrain and Sweden providing the two Vice-Chairmen.

93. Mr. Satoh (Japan) said, with regard to human security, that in the current age of globalization, it was increasingly important to consider policy in terms not only of national interests but of the interests of all human beings. “Human security” meant ensuring the security and survival of human beings as individuals and protecting their dignity.
٩٣ - السيد ساتوه )اليابان(: يود أن يستهل كلمته بعرض وجهة نظر بلده بشأن اﻷمن البشري. وقال ان بلده يرى انه أصبح من المهم أكثر فأكثر اعتبار السياسات الواجب تطبيقها ليس من وجهة نظر المصالح الوطنية فحسب ولكن أيضا من وجهة نظر مراعاة مصالح البشر كافة في عهد العولمة.

82. At its 1st plenary meeting, on 24 August 1999, the Meeting elected as Chairman H.E. Mr. Yukio Satoh (Japan), as Rapporteur H.E. Mr. Alberto SALAMANCA (Bolivia) and H.E. Mr. Alounkèo KITTIKHOUN (Lao People's Democratic Republic) and H.E. Mr. Dumisana Shadrack KUMALO (South Africa) as Vice-Chairmen.
