The consultation was organized by the Association of Italian Women for Development (AIDOS) and the organization No Peace Without Justice under the auspices of the National Council on Children and Motherhood, an Egyptian government body, established by the First Lady of Egypt, Ms. Suzanne Mubarak, and the European Commission.

In November 2009, the Special Representative participated in an important conference organized in Cairo, under the patronage of the First Lady of Egypt, to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood of Egypt.

With reference to the letter dated 22 January 2009, I have the pleasure to attach herewith the letter received from Mme. Suzanne Mubarak, the First Lady of Egypt and the President of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society (ERCS), addressed to you, regarding Egypt's efforts to alleviate the grave humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip resulting from the Israeli aggression (see annex).
