Transboundary aquifers or aquifer systems and related installations, facilities and other works shall enjoy the protection accorded by the principles and rules of international law applicable in international and non-international armed conflict and shall not be used in violation of those principles and rules.
تتمتع طبقات المياه الجوفية أو شبكات طبقات المياه الجوفية العابرة للحدود والمنشآت والمرافق والأشغال الأخرى المتصلة بها بالحماية التي توفرها مبادئ وقواعد القانون الدولي الواجبة التطبيق في النـزاعات المسلحة الدولية وغير الدولية، ولا يجوز استخدامها استخداما ينتهك هذه المبادئ والقواعد.

34. Like uses of international watercourses and of their waters, uses of transboundary aquifer systems are numerous, especially in arid and semi-arid countries, where they often constitute the only source of water.

In view of uncertainty about the nature and extent of transboundary aquifers or aquifer systems and of their vulnerability to pollution, aquifer States shall take a precautionary approach.
