5. Mr. Strohal (Austria), welcoming the linkage made between the violation of minority rights and violent conflict, said that protecting minority rights was a tool for preventing conflict.

1. Mr. Strohal (Austria), speaking on behalf of the European Union, expressed regret that the Special Rapporteur had not been allowed to visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo and asked whether, in the meantime, he had received a reply to his request to do so.
١ - السيد شتروهال )النمسا(: تناول الكلمة نيابة عن الاتحاد اﻷوروبي فأعرب عن اﻷسف لكون المقرر الخاص لم يؤذن له بزيارة جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية وتساءل عما إذا كان المقرر الخاص قد تلقى في الفترة اﻷخيرة ردا على طلبه بالقيام بتلك الزيارة.

78. Mr. Strohal (Austria), speaking on behalf of the European Union, welcomed the Special Rapporteur’s intention to be active in respect of capital punishment.

11. Mr. Strohal (Austria), speaking on behalf of the European Union, said that the European Union was prepared to help the Cambodian people build a stable and democratic future.

75. Mr. Strohal (Austria), speaking on agenda items 100 (b) and (c), said that Austria associated itself with the statement made by the representative of Germany on behalf of the European Union.

Mr. Strohal (Austria): Mr. President, allow me to start by congratulating you on the assumption of your post and also on the energetic manner with which you are trying to take us forward.

Mr. Strohal (Austria): I have asked to briefly take the floor with regard to the draft resolution contained in document A/C.1/64/L.41 on the report of the Conference on Disarmament in order to introduce a small oral revision.
