The Chairman recalled that, at its twenty-seventh meeting, held on 11 June 2010, following a nomination by the Group of African States, the Committee had elected Mr. Chidyausiku (Zimbabwe) to the office of Chairman for the sixty-fifth session.

Mr. Chidyausiku (Zimbabwe) said that on many occasions in the past his delegation had spoken about the interconnectedness of human rights and the need to treat all human rights equally, and called on the Committee to reject what it saw as the deliberate tendency by some Member States and groups to create a hierarchy of rights.
