24. As of September 1998, eight months have transpired since the establishment by the Secretary-General of the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP).

2. The Committee recalls that the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP) was created following the announcement by Robert Edward Turner, on 18 September 1998, of a gift valued at $1 billion in support of United Nations causes.

Thanks to additional voluntary contributions received in 1999 from the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships, a second round of ACT project grants will be awarded by end-1999/beginning 2000.
