Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Palestine): To begin, I wish to convey my delegation's appreciation with regard to the adoption by consensus of the resolution on assistance to the Palestinian people.

14. Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for Palestine) said that 2008 was the sixtieth anniversary of AlNakba, which had led to the uprooting, displacement and dispossession of the Palestinian people.

14. Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for Palestine) said that a human-rights and humanitarian crisis prevailed in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

68. Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for Palestine) welcomed the adoption of the draft resolutions, in view of the ongoing plight of the Palestine refugees and the concomitant need for the assistance of UNRWA.

87. Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for Palestine) said, in response to the comments by the representative of Israel, that she categorically rejected his remarks and especially his personal attacks on the Commissioner-General.

Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Palestine): The representative of Israel today questioned the efficacy of -- or questioned if there are any tangible benefits to -- General Assembly resolutions.

8. Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for Palestine), speaking on a point of order, said that the statement by the representative of Israel had been unacceptably long.

17. Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for the State of Palestine) said that her delegation was grateful for the Secretary-General's commitment to the question of Palestine and his consistent calls for a halt to Israeli violations.

33. Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for the State of Palestine) said that her delegation supported the amendment that had been proposed by the representative of Turkey, as well as the proposals that had been made by the representatives of South Africa and Egypt.

Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for the State of Palestine) said that the international community had witnessed and documented in real time the reality of the Gaza tragedy as the Israeli occupying forces' missiles, artillery and sophisticated weaponry had killed over 2,000 people deliberately and wantonly and wounded over 11,000 innocent civilians of all ages.
