وقد أسهمت حالات العنف ضد الصحفيين، والقيود القانونية على البث الإذاعي والحالة الاقتصادية السيئة في تقييد التدفق الحر للمعلومات وخاصة فيما بين أوساط البث الإذاعي، وهي المصدر الأول للأنباء لمعظم الأرمينيين.

He notes that the development of an international direct radio-broadcasting capacity remains one of the most cost-effective and far-reaching media of communication available to the United Nations, as was demonstrated by the direct short-wave broadcasts of United Nations Radio during the period from 1953 to 1985, through the facilities of the Voice of America.
