In November 1992, I appointed Chinmaya Gharekhan as my Special Representative at the multilateral talks.

Concurrently, Mr. Gharekhan also serves as the Representative of the Secretary-General to the multilateral peace talks on the Middle East, a position he has held since January 1993.

We are therefore gratified by the appointment of Ambassador Chinmaya R. Gharekhan as the United Nations Special Coordinator in the Occupied Territories, to serve as the focal point of the efforts of the Organization, as well as to maintain contact with the donor community and other non-governmental organizations in this field.
ولذا نحن ممتنون لتعيين السفير تشينمايا ر. غاريخان منسقا خاصا لﻷمم المتحدة في اﻷراضي المحتلة، ليقوم بدور يمثل حلقة الوصل في جهود المنظمة، وكذلك لمداومة الاتصالات بالمجتمع المانح والمنظمات غير الحكومية اﻷخرى في هذا الميدان.

We hope that with the appointment of Chinmaya Gharekhan as Special Coordinator in the Occupied Territories the United Nations role in the economic and social fields will be so strengthened as to enable the Organization to contribute meaningfully to the alleviation of the suffering of the Palestinians and their over-dependence on the Israeli economy.
ونأمل أن يؤدي تعيين شنمايا غاريخان منسقا خاصا في اﻷراضي المحتلة، إلــى تعزيز دور اﻷمم المتحدة في المجالين الاقتصـــادي والاجتماعي، إلى الحد الذي يمكﱢن المنظمة من أن تسهم إسهاما كبيرا في التخفيف من آلام الفلسطينيين ومن اعتمادهم المفرط على الاقتصاد اﻹسرائيلي.

3. Uganda expresses its gratitude to the Secretary-General for the report of his Special Envoy, Mr. Chinmaya Gharekhan, who visited Uganda on 23 February 1996 and held discussions with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, the Honourable Kintu Musoke.
