Thanks to that visionary decision, thanks to the liberating army of Commander José Figueres, who renounced arms forever, we have the opportunity today to invest our resources in things that matter.

The President: On behalf of the General Assembly, I have the honour to welcome to the United Nations His Excellency Mr. José María Figueres Olsen, President of the Republic of Costa Rica, and to invite him to address the Assembly.

Mr. Figueres Olsen (Chairman of the Information and Communication Technologies Task Force): Mr. President, thank you for your leadership in devoting these meetings of the General Assembly to the very important and relevant topic of information technologies.
