A large number of coastal States have made submissions to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf with regard to the outer limits of their continental shelves beyond 200 nautical miles.

In general terms, the purpose of the Fund is to provide assistance to the developing States Parties to meet their obligations under article 76 of the Convention, and in particular, to assist in financing the training of personnel of developing countries, to enable them to prepare submissions to the Commission with respect to the outer limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles, as appropriate.14
