At the third Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation oceans-related ministerial meeting, held in Paracas, Peru, the participants adopted the Paracas Declaration in which ministers comitted themselves to focusing on the sustainable development and protection of the marine environment, the impact of climate change on the oceans, free and open trade and investment, and the role of oceans in food security.

At Doha, the Third WTO Ministerial Conference adopted a " Declaration on the TRIPS Agreement and Public Health " in which the Ministers stressed the need for the TRIPS Agreement " to be part of the wider national and international action " to address public health problems.

Furthermore, the Final Declaration of the Meeting of the Non-Aligned Countries included a section on decolonization in which the Ministers reiterated their support for the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples and reaffirmed that the successful completion of the decolonization process remained a major objective for the Movement.

In pursuance of decisions of the African Union Conference of Ministers of Trade on Commodities (Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, November 2005), at which ministers agreed on an ambitious plan of action for African commodities, UNCTAD has stepped up its work on commodities in the African region, as well as on Africa's trade and cooperation with other developing regions.
