A broad range of factors contributes to food price fluctuations, including increased demand for food, competing uses for food grains such as for the production of biofuels, declining grain stocks and rising oil prices, and speculative activities in food markets.
وثمة نطاق واسع من العوامل يسهم في تقلبات أسعار الأغذية، بما في ذلك زيادة الطلب على الطعام والاستخدامات التنافسية للحبوب الغذائية ومنها ما يتعلق بإنتاج المحروقات الأحيائية فضلاً عن تناقص مخزونات الحبوب وارتفاع أسعار النفط وممارسة أنشطة المضاربة في أسواق الغذاء.

Recognizes the importance of considering, in this dialogue, the needs of developing countries, and stresses that special attention should be given to the needs of net-food-importing developing countries in addressing excessive price volatility in food and related financial and commodity markets to achieve their food security;

At its 38th meeting, on 2 December, the Committee had before it a draft resolution entitled " Addressing excessive price volatility in food and related financial and commodity markets " (A/C.2/66/L.72), submitted by the Vice-Chair of the Committee, Denis Zdorov (Belarus), on the basis of informal consultations held on draft resolution A/C.2/66/L.7.

At the same session, the General Assembly requested the President of the Assembly at its sixty-sixth session to convene a high-level thematic debate on excessive price volatility in food and related financial and commodity markets, which was held on 11 April 2012, and requested the Secretary-General to consider the outcomes of that debate in future reports to be submitted under the relevant agenda items (resolution 66/188).
وفي الدورة نفسها، طلبت الجمعية العامة إلى رئيس الجمعية في دورتها السادسة والستين أن يدعو إلى عقد مناقشة مواضيعية رفيعة المستوى بشأن التقلب المفرط للأسعار في أسواق الغذاء وأسواق المال والسلع الأساسية المتصلة بها، وقد عقدت تلك المناقشة في 11 نيسان/أبريل 2012، وطلبت إلى الأمين العام أن ينظر في نتائج تلك المناقشة فيما يقدمه مستقبلا من تقارير في إطار بنود جدول الأعمال ذات الصلة (القرار 66/188).

Several animal and vegetable oils are being displaced in the food market as a result of health factors; biodiesel from these resources could offer a high-value alternative market for oilseed and tallow producers.
وتفقد في الوقت الراهن الكثير من الزيوت الحيوانية والنباتية مكانها في أسواق الغذاء لدواعي صحية؛ غير أن إنتاج الديزل الحيوي من هذه الموارد قد يمثل لمنتجي البذور الزيتية والشحم الحيواني سوقا بديلا عالي القيمة.
