2. Accordingly, the Secretary—General established, in 1993, within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the focal point responsibility on the subject.

Recommends that a special trust fund for activities in the area of science and technology for development be established within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, with a view to assisting in implementing various mandates received or to be received by the Conference in the area of science and technology for development;

At its 45th plenary meeting, on 28 July 2000, the Economic and Social Council took note of the report of the Secretary-General on proposals for strengthening the coordination of mechanisms on the Commission on Science and Technology for Development within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development with the objective of promoting complementarity of activities within the United Nations system.

Recalling further General Assembly resolution 55/185, which called upon the Secretary-General to strengthen the Commission and its secretariat within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development by providing it with the necessary resources to enable it to carry out its mandate of assisting the developing countries with their national development efforts in the field of science and technology in an optimal manner.
وإذ يشير كذلك إلى قرار الجمعية العامة 55/185، الذي يدعو الأمين العام إلى تعزيز اللجنة وأمانتها في إطار مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للتجارة والتنمية، بتزويدها بالموارد اللازمة لتمكينها من الاضطلاع بولايتها المتمثلة في مساعدة البلدان النامية في جهودها الإنمائية الوطنية في ميدان العلم والتكنولوجيا، وذلك بطريقة اختيارية.

The Council, in its resolution 2001/32, also recommended that a special trust fund for activities in the area of science and technology for development be established within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, with a view to assisting in implementing various mandates received or to be received by the Conference in the area of science and technology for development.
كما أوصى المجلس، في قراره 2001/32، بإنشاء صندوق استئماني خاص بالأنشطة المضطلع بها في مجال تسخير العلم والتكنولوجيا لأغراض التنمية، في إطار مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للتجارة والتنمية، بغية المساعدة في تنفيذ الولايات المختلفة الموكلة، أو التي ستؤكل، إلى المؤتمر في مجال تسخير العلم والتكنولوجيا لأغراض التنمية.

In that context, they requested the re-establishment of the programme on Africa within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) so that a specific programme on Africa would be in place to carry out any new strategy or plan which the United Nations might adopt to succeed the United Nations New Agenda for the Development of Africa in the 1990s.
