I also want to join others in paying tribute to Ambassador O'Sullivan for his vital role in the Conference during his three years here, especially regarding the negotiations on the chemical weapons convention and his efforts leading up to the historic negotiations we are now beginning on a CTBT.

I believe that the positive developments in the Conference in 2006 not only represent a modest but important step towards revitalization of the Conference, but also can be considered a contribution to the process of revitalizing the disarmament machinery as a whole.
وأعتقد أن التطورات الإيجابية في المؤتمر خلال عام 2006 ليست فحسب خطوة هامة، ولو متواضعة، نحو إعادة تنشيط المؤتمر، وإنما تشكل أيضا إسهاما في عملية إعادة تنشيط آلية نزع السلاح برمتها.

The positive developments in the Conference in 2008 are reflected in the sixth and seventh paragraphs of the preamble, which stress that the constructive contributions of members made it possible to carry out various activities aimed at renewing negotiations on important disarmament issues in the Conference.
وترد التطورات الإيجابية في المؤتمر خلال عام 2008 في الفقرتين السادسة والسابعة من الديباجة، والتي تؤكد على أن المساهمات البناءة التي قدمها الأعضاء قد أتاحت تنفيذ مختلف الأنشطة الرامية إلى استئناف المفاوضات بشأن القضايا الهامة لنزع السلاح في المؤتمر.

I am also grateful during these years to have been able to witness firsthand the interesting momentum that has occurred in the CD during my tenure here.
