The inherent right of any group of States to conclude regional arrangements with a view to eliminating nuclear weapons in their respective territories was one of the fundamental principles guiding the drafting process of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and was later incorporated in article VII of the Treaty.

8. The Group of Non-Aligned States Parties to the Treaty stresses the importance of the ratification by the nuclear-weapon States of the relevant protocols to the treaties of Pelindaba, Rarotonga, Semipalatinsk and Bangkok in order to ensure the total absence of nuclear weapons in the territories of the States parties to those treaties, as envisaged in article VII of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

169. As requested by the General Assembly, the Board reviewed the actuarial valuation of the accrued liabilities for after-service health insurance. The Board met that request within the limits of its own mandate, as set out in article VII of the Financial Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and the annex thereto, and in accordance with the International Standards on Auditing.
