VIII.67. The Advisory Committee was also informed that as at 31 May 1995 5 interpreter posts (3 P-5 and 2 P-2) remained vacant out of 118 interpreter posts in the Interpretation Service, New York, and that the vacancies were not being used for any other purposes.

Regular staff in the Interpretation Service worked 35,839 days (83 per cent of total work days), 3 per cent above the target; temporary staff worked 7,291 days (17 per cent of total work days).

The Department would take action on a number of issues raised by delegations, such as the timely issuance of documents, improvement of the quality of interpretation and translation, recruitment of staff to fill the vacancies in the Interpretation Service at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, and promotion of the use of conference services at various duty stations.

Notes with concern that the Arabic and English units in the Interpretation Service at the United Nations Office at Nairobi are not yet fully staffed, and in this regard reiterates its request to the Secretary-General contained in section IV, paragraph 9, of its resolution 56/242 to fill expeditiously the remaining vacancies and requests the Secretary-General to report thereon to the General Assembly at its fifty-seventh session;

(f) The inward redeployment of two General Service (Principal level) posts from subprogramme 3, one to strengthen the new Meetings Support Section at the supervisory level and another to provide support for the programming function in the Interpretation Service in the light of the increasingly complex nature of planning in the Service (see table 2.6, item 3).
(و) النقل الداخلي لوظيفتين من فئة الخدمات العامة (الرتبة الأساسية) من البرنامج الفرعي 3، واحدة منهما لتعزيز قسم دعم الجلسات المنشأ حديثاً، على المستوى الإشرافي، الأخرى لتقديم الدعم لمهمة البرمجة في دائرة الترجمة الشفوية في ضوء الطبيعة التي تزداد تعقيداً فيما يتعلق بأنشطة التخطيط في الدائرة (انظر الجدول 2-6، البند 3).

The Advisory Committee notes that the Secretary-General is proposing the establishment of the following posts through the conversion of temporary assistance funds: (a) three new P-3 posts for verbatim reporters; (b) six General Service (Other level) posts for editorial assistants in the Text-Processing Section; and (c) one new General Service (Other level) post for a meeting servicing assistant in the Interpretation Service.
