However, in the light of General Assembly resolutions 64/243, 65/244 and 66/8, in which the Assembly endorsed the recommendations of the Committee for Programme and Coordination, that the vacant post of Special Adviser on Africa be filled at the legislatively mandated level of Under-Secretary-General, the Secretary-General decided to abandon the idea of unifying the two offices.

The mandates of the Centre for International Crime Prevention relating to the prevention and combating of terrorism were stressed, particularly in the light of General Assembly resolutions 56/123 of 19 December 2001, 56/253 of 24 December 2001 and 56/261 of 31 January 2002, as well as resolution 11/1 and draft resolution VIII adopted by the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at its eleventh session.

Action taken: Questioned the need for providing summary records to the Conference and its Preparatory Committee, especially in view of the General Assembly resolutions and guidelines on the control and limitation of documentation, but noted that the provisions of summary records would benefit smaller delegations, as well as civil society.
الإجراء المتخذ: تساءلت عما إذا كان ثمة حاجة لتزويد المؤتمر ولجنته التحضيرية بمحاضر موجزة، خاصة في ضوء قرارات الجمعية العامة ومبادئها التوجيهية المتعلقة بمراقبة الوثائق والحد منها، ولكنها لاحظت أن توفير المحاضر الموجزة يفيد الوفود الصغيرة فضلا عن المجتمع المدني.
