17. The Committee, while noting some improvement in witness protection in criminal proceedings, remains gravely concerned at the lack of adequate measures of witness protection and witness support before, during and after trials, which has a negative impact on the willingness and ability of witnesses to participate in investigations or to testify in proceedings.
17- تأخذ اللجنة علماً ببعض التحسينات التي أدخلت على إجراءات حماية الشهود في المحاكمات الجنائية، إلا أنها لا تزال تشعر في نفس الوقت بقلق بالغ إزاء انعدام التدابير الكافية لحماية الشهود ودعمهم قبل المحاكمات وأثناءها وبعدها، وهو أمر له أثر سلبي على رغبة الشهود في المشاركة في عمليات التحقيق أو تقديم الشهادة في المحاكمات واستعدادهم لذلك.

Article 26, paragraphs 2 and 3, encourages States parties to consider mitigating the sentence or granting immunity from prosecution to persons who cooperate with the authorities in the investigation or prosecution of organized crime.
وتشجّع الفقرتان 2 و3 من المادة 26 الدول الأطراف على النظر في منح تخفيف للعقوبة أو منح الحصانة من الملاحقة القضائية للأشخاص الذين يتعاونون مع السلطات في عمليات التحقيق أو الملاحقة القضائية للجريمة المنظمة.
