1. Description of the ecosystems on the deep seabed

This initiative aims to propose a baseline reference of the environment and the structure of megafaunal assemblages and develop recommendations for the management of the impacts of deep seabed mining.
وتهدف هذه المبادرة إلى اقتراح وضع مرجع أساسي عن البيئة وهيكل تجمعات الحيوانات الضخمة، ووضع توصيات لإدارة آثار التعدين في قيعان البحار السحيقة.

The Conference of the Parties also invited States to identify activities and processes under their jurisdiction or control that might have significant adverse impacts on deep seabed ecosystems and species beyond the limits of national jurisdiction in order to address article 3 of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The Conference also indicated that it was aware of a preliminary range of options for the protection of deep seabed genetic resources beyond national jurisdiction, and emphasized the need for further work in developing them and other options, in particular within the framework of the United Nations.

Several delegations provided information on the conservation measures they had adopted at the national level to protect marine biodiversity and vulnerable marine ecosystems, including the prohibition of bottom trawling in various areas under their national jurisdiction or on the high seas through the exercise of flag State jurisdiction.
