1. In its resolution 2004/35 of 21 July 2004, the Economic and Social Council noted with alarm the continuing spread of HIV/AIDS in pre-trial and correctional facilities.

Conscious also of the commitment expressed in the Bangkok Declaration to the development and maintenance of fair and efficient criminal justice institutions, including the humane treatment of all those in pre-trial and correctional facilities, in accordance with applicable international standards,
وإذ يدرك أيضا ما أعرب عنه من التزام في إعلان بانكوك بإنشاء مؤسسات منصفة وكفؤة للعدالة الجنائية وصونها، بما في ذلك معاملة جميع أولئك المحتجزين في مرافق الاحتجاز قبل المحاكمة والمرافق الإصلاحية معاملة إنسانية، وفقا للمعايير الدولية السارية،

Recalling in particular its resolution 2004/35 of 21 July 2004, on combating the spread of HIV/AIDS in criminal justice pre-trial and correctional facilities, and deeply concerned at the spread of HIV/AIDS in pre-trial and correctional facilities in Africa and the risks posed to society as a whole, especially in situations of overcrowding in prisons,
وإذ يستذكر على وجه الخصوص قراره 2004/35 المؤرخ 21 تموز/يوليه 2004 بشأن مكافحة انتشار فيروس نقص المناعة البشرية/الأيدز في مرافق الاحتجاز قبل المحاكمة والمرافق الإصلاحية التابعة لنظام العدالة الجنائية، وإذ يشعر ببالغ القلق بشأن انتشار الأيدز وفيروسه في مرافق الاحتجاز قبل المحاكمة والمرافق الإصلاحية في أفريقيا، وما ينجم عن ذلك من مخاطر تهدّد المجتمع بأسره، وبخاصة في حالات اكتظاط السجون،

4. In the resolution the Economic and Social Council requested the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to collect information on the situation of HIV/AIDS in pre-trial and correctional facilities, with a view to providing Governments with programmatic and policy guidance.
4- وطلب المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي في القرار إلى مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة أن يجمع معلومات عن حالة فيروس نقص المناعة البشرية/الأيدز في مرافق الاحتجاز قبل المحاكمة والمرافق الإصلاحية بهدف تزويد الحكومات بالتوجيهات للبرامج والسياسات العامة، وعملا بذلك الطلب طلبت الأمانة في مذكرة شفوية مؤرخة

5. Suggests that appropriate training should be given to managers and warders of pre-trial and correctional facilities to enable them to deal better with HIV/AIDS;
5 - يقترح توفير تدريب مناسب للمديرين والسجّانين في مرافق الاحتجاز قبل المحاكمة والمرافق الإصلاحية لتمكينهم من التعامل على نحو أفضل مع الإصابة بفيروس نقص المناعة البشرية/الإيدز؛
