My statement in this general debate focuses on two points, the first of a general nature and the second more specifically related to the 2010 session.

We felt that it would be useful to recall those principles because the picture of the world that has emerged in this general debate since 23 September is not a very optimistic one.

I wish to conclude my statement in this general debate by reemphasizing Japan's readiness to participate in the Security Council, which is at the centre of United Nations activity, as well as to engage more actively and more constructively in the aforementioned areas of endeavour in order to discharge its responsibility with regard to world peace and prosperity.
وأود أن أختتم بيانــي في هذه المناقشة العامة بالتأكيد على استعداد اليابان للمشاركة في مجلس اﻷمن الذي هو في مركز القلب فــي نشاط اﻷمــم المتحدة، باﻹضافة إلى العمل بمزيد من النشاط وبصورة بناءة أكبر في المجالات التي ذكرتها آنفا من أجــل الوفاء بمسؤولياتها تجاه السلم والرخاء العالميين.

For the Government of Honduras, to participate in this general debate on the world financial and economic crisis and its effects on development is a need generated by the suffering of millions of our citizens who have lost their jobs throughout the world and by the impoverishment of vast sectors of the populations of the developing countries.

It is comforting to note that, at this time of crisis for the Organization, virtually all the participants in this debate have expressed this same sentiment.

As a representative of one of the world's oldest democracies — one which celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of its second republic this year — I cannot be accused of underrating the redeeming virtues of democracy, which, as was pointed out earlier in this debate, fosters the greatest force behind social and economic progress: individual creativity.

My delegation is delighted to contribute to this general debate on disarmament and international security and reaffirms the commitment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to global efforts aimed at strengthening disarmament.
