Article 3 of the Penal Code that was promulgated by Republican Decree No. 12 of 1994 provides as follows:
وتنص المادة 3 من قانون الجرائم والعقوبات الصادر بالقرار الجمهوري رقم 12 لعام 1994 على ما يلي:

Addition of articles to the Penal Code defining, torture, racial discrimination and the right to life;
إضافة مواد إلى قانون الجرائم والعقوبات تعرف الحق في الحياة والتعذيب والتمييز العنصري.

The penalty shall be specified in the Penal Code.

The conditions under which the hadd for adultery may be abated are listed in article 266 of the Code of Offences and Penalties as follows:

There is no specific legislation on violence within the family but the Penal Code does contain provisions on acts of violence, whether in the family or the community.

Articles 166, 167 and168 of the Penal Code contain provisions which prohibit and punish acts that lead to forced confession, the infringement of individual liberty and the use of force.

In addition, under article 252 of the Penal Code, anyone who abducts, conceals, substitutes or falsifies the parentage of a newborn child is liable to a term of up to five years' imprisonment;

Article 266 of the Penal Code, which deals with the grounds for non-applicability of the doctrinal punishment for adultery, reads as follows:

The initiative to harmonize national legislation with the Convention has been undertaken for that purpose, and the adoption of the Offences and Penalties Act is the best example of progress in that respect.
